FACIAL REDNESS & ROSACEA

The facial redness and rosacea
To identify the cause

In addition to redness, we will organize the overlap of inflammation, barrier function, blood vessels, and skin aging in the examination.

Facial redness can be caused by a variety of factors, including rosacea, dermatitis, acne, dryness, and dilation of capillaries. Symptoms that look similar do not always require the same care.

At our clinic, we check the condition and progress of the skin, and develop a practical plan that may include daily care, topical and oral medication, and device-based treatment.

CONCERNS

With facial redness and rosacea
Do you have any of these concerns?

Even with the same "redness", each person appears differently and the trigger is different.

Continued redness of the cheeks and nose
Flushing triggered by temperature changes or alcohol
Skin care stings
Has acne-like red bumps
Vascularity around the nose is prominent
melasma and redness are mixed
Symptoms remain unstable despite ongoing care
I would like to consult from daily care
CAUSES

Looks red and rosacea
Causes of redness

Redness is not only rosacea, but multiple skin problems can show a similar appearance. The following are typical examples to organize at the time of the consultation.

01
Illustration of redness and dryness of the cheeks due to irritating contact dermatitis and reduced barrier function

Irritant contact dermatitis,
Reduced barrier function

Redness, dryness, and tingling are noticeable throughout the face. It may become unstable due to excessive washing or irritating treatment.

Things to see: Dry, irritating, cosmetics in use
02
Illustration of seborrheic dermatitis with redness and peeling around the eyebrows, nose and mouth

seborrheic dermatitis

Redness and fine peeling may be mixed in areas with sebaceous areas, such as between eyebrows, nose and around the mouth.

Points to see: Parts, peeling, sebum
03
Illustration of rosacea with persistent redness and capillaries on both cheeks and nose

rosacea

There is persistent redness and flushing in the background, which may be accompanied by capillaries, pimples, pustules, irritation, etc.

Points to look at: persistent redness, flushing, blood vessels
04
Illustration of dermatitis with redness and dryness around the eyes and cheeks due to pollen

Pollen dermatitis,
Aerial contact dermatitis

It may suddenly get worse with the seasons, causing redness, dryness, and itching around the eyes and cheeks.

Things to see: seasonality, eye area, itching
05
Illustration of follicular contact dermatitis with red bumps per pore after cosmetic use

follicular contact dermatitis

After applying new cosmetics or sunscreen, small red bumps may appear per pore.

What to look for: New products and rashes per pore
It is difficult to distinguish these conditions from appearance alone. If presumed acne is treated too aggressively, the irritation may overlap, so check it including the course and the product in use.
WHY REDNESS PERSISTS

Causes of persistent redness

Redness can be strong when ultraviolet rays, temperature differences, friction, pollen, irritating skin care, drinking, and stress overlap with sensitive skin tendencies and constitution.

02InflammationTingling/bumps
03Vascular reactionsFlushing and persistent redness
04Sensitivity to stimuliA cycle in which symptoms flare again

Redness may reflect changes in the foundation of the skin

In rosacea, inflammation, impaired barrier function, and vasodilation may be involved and worsened. In addition, when acne, seborrheic dermatitis, contact dermatitis, etc. overlap, it becomes difficult to distinguish the symptoms.

Redness can be a significant contributor to changes in skin structure and capillary status due to photo-aging of the dermis. At our clinic, we check not only the color of the surface, but also the inflammation and the foundation of the skin.

Redness may reflect photoaging or chronic inflammation in the dermis. UV exposure, friction, and aging can make capillaries dilate. The cross-section labels epidermis, dermis, and subcutaneous tissue and compares a normal capillary with a dilated capillary.

SKIN AGING

What is skin aging?

Direct English rendering of the Japanese text in the retained source image, in visual reading order (top to bottom and left to right within each row; Before/After panels and arrows remain in the image): Side-by-side comparison of young skin and aged skin. Upward arrows identify senescent cells; the aged-skin panel shows deterioration of the dermal environment compared with the young-skin panel.

The skin is mainly composed of the epidermis and dermis, the epidermis is a barrier that protects against external irritation and dryness, and the dermis is supported by collagen, elastin, capillaries, etc. to support firmness and healthy appearance.

Overlapping effects such as age, UV rays, friction, and chronic inflammation can disrupt turnover and barrier function, as well as reduce collagen and elastin in the dermis. When the dermis becomes thinner, the capillaries become transparent and easier to see, and redness and decreased firmness are one of the factors that are prominent.

REDNESS & MELASMA

Relationship between redness and melasma/skin aging

When examining melasma and pigmentation, we check not only for color but also for redness and inflammation.

Don't just chase pigments, check for inflammation

On red or inflamed skin, irritation may affect melanocytes and pigmentation may be more pronounced. Therefore, it is important to establish a policy that includes redness, dryness, and vascular reactions, rather than superimposing strong irritation on suspected melasma.

If redness and melasma are mixed, we will consider not only whitening and laser toning, but also a combination of skin care review, treatment for inflammation, and redness control.

Illustration of redness and inflammation stimulating melanocytes and involving melasma and pigmentation

Direct English rendering of the Japanese text in the retained source image, in visual reading order (top to bottom and left to right within each row; Before/After panels and arrows remain in the image): Why redness can worsen melasma: persistent redness or inflammation stimulates melanocytes → melanin increases → melasma and hyperpigmentation become more visible. The longer inflammation continues, the more likely pigment problems are to become established.

SKIN HEALTH

Thinking about facial redness/rosacea treatment
What is “skin revitalization”?

Skin revitalization aims to improve the underlying skin condition as well as visible concerns.

Illustration showing the concept of skin growth by comparing skin to soil

Direct English rendering of the Japanese text in the retained source image, in visual reading order (top to bottom and left to right within each row; Before/After panels and arrows remain in the image): The skin is the “soil,” and visible changes are the “fruit.” Skin-rejuvenation treatment treats the skin foundation as soil; brightness, firmness, smoothness, and fine texture are outcomes that grow from that foundation. The less-supportive soil conditions shown are dryness, nutrient deficiency, imbalance, and hard soil.

1

First of all, know the current foundation

Check dryness, inflammation, sebum, barrier function, dermis condition and organize necessary treatments.

Direct English rendering of the Japanese text in the retained source image, in visual reading order (top to bottom and left to right within each row; Before/After panels and arrows remain in the image): Treatment is not completed with one method; combinations are considered. ADVATx laser, Mesona J, injectable treatment, and ALLTITE radiofrequency treatment may be combined according to skin condition and purpose to improve the skin foundation. The lower panel explains that ADVATx 1319 nm is used to stimulate the dermis and fibroblasts and is one option when considering skin quality, firmness, radiance, pores, and sebum balance.

2

Combine stimulation and resupply

Device-based treatments that create a controlled response and treatments that deliver necessary ingredients such as Mesona J will be considered according to the skin condition.

During periods of intense redness, you may prioritize calming the inflammation rather than aggressive treatment. Consider not only “what to do,” but also “what to avoid now.”
OUR POLICY

Our facial redness and rosacea treatment policy

1

Do not treat all redness as one condition; assess overlapping causes

Check for similar or concomitant symptoms, such as rosacea, dermatitis, acne, telangiectasia, and melasma. Daily skin care and aggravating triggers also inform the treatment plan.

2

Sequencing routine care and treatment

Review excessive cleansing, friction and potentially irritating cosmetics, and combine topical and oral medication if necessary. Proceed in stages to avoid destabilizing sensitive skin.

3

Choose by skin condition, not by machine name

Options vary by the main concern: ADVATx for redness or vascular components, Mesona J when sensitivity or dryness coexists, and POTENZA when acne or pores overlap.

TREATMENT COMPARISON

FAQ

Frequently asked questions about facial redness and rosacea treatment

Does facial redness have a single cause?

Stimuli such as reduced barrier function, inflammation, dilation of capillaries, ultraviolet rays and friction may appear to overlap. There may be dermatitis and acne other than rosacea, so check the condition during consultation.

How do you distinguish between rosacea and acne?

We check for visible vessels, persistent redness, flushing, dryness, irritation, papules, and pustules. Because rosacea and acne can look similar, treatment should not be intensified without assessment.

When it comes to facial redness and rosacea, what do you review first?

We review factors that may worsen symptoms, such as washing too much, rubbing too much, irritating cosmetics, ultraviolet rays, and sudden temperature changes. If necessary, we will consider topical medication, oral medication, and device-based treatment.

Can I have device-based treatment when my skin is red?

It depends on the cause of the redness, the intensity of the inflammation, the barrier function, the presence of melasma and acne. Calming active inflammation may take priority; ADVATx may be considered when appropriate.

How do you choose between ADVATx, Mesona J and POTENZA?

Redness with vascular components, sensitivity and dryness, acne and pores, and other central concerns can change your options. Treatment is not necessarily limited to one method, but adjusts the order and combination according to the skin condition.

Can I treat redness even if I have melasma?

There may be a mixture of melasma and redness. Considering the possibility of worsening with irritation, we will consider a treatment policy that includes not only pigments but also inflammation and vascular reactions.
