Lesions that are suspected to be malignant or require pathological examination will not be vaporized by the CO2 laser, and we will guide you through excision or biopsy.

ABOUT CO₂ LASER

What is a CO2 laser?

CO2 laser (carbon dioxide laser) is a laser with a wavelength that is absorbed by the moisture contained in the skin. It turns into thermal energy in the irradiated area and evaporates the tissue finely.

Compared to the method of excision with a scalpel, it has the advantage of making it easier to remove small lesions while suppressing bleeding to the surrounding area. We confirm the type, size, depth, and location of the lesion, and then use laser or excision.

Equipment adopted by our clinic UAL3000DP
HOW IT WORKS

How CO2 laser evaporates tissue

Laser energy is focused on the lesion and removed little by little while checking the depth.

ABSORPTION

Absorption by water

The laser is absorbed by the moisture in the skin and converted into thermal energy at the irradiated area.

VAPORIZATION

Controlled tissue vaporization

While observing the shape and depth of the lesion, pinpoint evaporation to the necessary area.

WOUND CARE

Protection in a moist wound environment

After the treatment, ointments and dressings will be applied to prevent dryness and protect the new skin until it forms.

INDICATIONS

Main symptoms treated with CO2 laser

Don't make a decision based on appearance alone; a medical examination will confirm whether laser treatment is suitable for you.

01

Mole

Evaporates according to the rise and depth. Deep moles may not be removed too much at once to avoid depression.

02

Warts/neck warts

Treats benign lesions that are suitable for laser removal, such as seborrheic keratosis and soft fibroma.

03

milia

Treat small white particles that appear around the eyes while checking the condition of the contents and film.

LASER

Laser removal

A small lesion that can be judged to be benign and suitable for treatment with transpiration.

SURGERY / BIOPSY

Excision/pathological examination

A large, deep, or potentially malignant lesion that requires confirmation of the diagnosis.

OUR FEATURES

CO2 laser treatment at our clinic

01

Plastic surgeon confirms the lesion

Although they may look like moles or warts, they include different skin tumors. We will check the size, color, shape, progress, and location of the tumor, and advise you on excision and pathological testing if necessary.

Diagnosis first, then treatment.

02

Use of the approved UAL3000DP device

We use medical device approved by the Japanese Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare that can pinpoint high energy irradiation in a short period of time. Adjust the power and depth while observing the response of the lesion.

CO2 laser UAL3000DP capable of pinpoint irradiation
03

Balancing treatment depth and scarring risk

If you remove too much of a deep mole at once, it will lead to dents and scars. We will also explain the possibility of recurrence and consider ways to heal the tumor so that it blends in with the surrounding skin before administering the irradiation.

DEPTHSCAR

Adjust while looking at the removal amount and scar.

FLOW

CO2 laser treatment process

01

Booking and medical questionnaire

Check when you started noticing the bumps, changes, treatment history, constitution, and oral medications.

02

Physician examination

We confirm the type, size, depth, and location of the lesion, and organize treatment methods from laser, excision, and follow-up observation.

03

Cooling/local anesthesia

Consideration will be given to pain with icing and local anesthesia. We also have tape available to help reduce the irritation of the anesthesia injection.

04

Laser irradiation

Evaporate the lesion while checking the reaction and depth, and check the treatment area with a mirror.

05

Ointments and dressings

Apply ointment to the wound and use a dressing to prevent it from drying out. We will show you how to replace it and take measures against UV rays.

FAQ

CO2 laser FAQ

What kind of lesions is the CO2 laser used for?

Mainly used for removing moles, warts, milia, etc. Even if they look similar, they may contain different lesions or malignant tumors, so a physician will examine them before irradiation.

Will I experience any pain during the treatment?

Treatment is performed after cooling and local anesthesia. Local anesthesia can cause irritation during injection, but we also have thin needles and anesthetic tape available.

How long does it take for the wound to heal?

Prevent dryness of the treated area with ointment and dressing. The approximate time for epithelialization is 10 to 20 days, but this varies depending on the site, depth, and size.

Will I apply tape after treatment?

Apply ointment and apply a dressing to protect the wound. We will inform you about the replacement method and usage period after the treatment.

Can moles come back?

Deep moles may recur. On the other hand, the deeper the removal, the higher the risk of depression and scarring, so the balance with the surrounding skin should be considered during treatment. At our clinic, re-irradiation is available for recurrence within 6 months.

Will the treatment be covered by insurance?

CO2 laser treatment for cosmetic purposes is a self-pay treatment. If you have a lesion with symptoms or require pathological testing, we may refer you to insurance medical treatment depending on the diagnosis and treatment method.

COUNSELING

We consider more than removal—we also plan for healing.

A plastic surgeon will work with you to sort out whether the bump you are concerned about is suitable for laser treatment, and what to think about scarring and recurrence. If you notice any sudden changes or bleeding, please consult your physician first.
